Dr Chris Munro PhD MSc
I develop innovative software to improve health care and research as a Research Assistant in the Centre for Health Informatics. This combines a passion for technology and developing software combined with a genuine enthusiasm to make a difference to the health and well-being of the population.
I contribute to research projects across many applications areas encompassing public health, policy making, clinical informatics and decision making, health services management and optimisation.
iFAAM, funded under the 7th Framework Programme will develop evidence-based approaches and tools for MANAGEMENT of ALLERGENS in FOOD and integrate knowledge derived from their application and new knowledge from intervention studies into FOOD ALLERGY MANAGEMENT plans and dietary advice. The resulting holistic strategies will reduce the burden of food allergies in Europe and beyond, whilst enabling the European food industry to compete in the global market place. Our approach will build on e-Health concepts to allow full exploitation of complex data obtained from the work in this project and previous and ongoing studies, maximising sharing and linkage of data, by developing an informatics platform “Allerg-e-lab”.
Development of the Allerg-e-Lab data platform for the iFAAM EU FP7 Project (Integrated Approaches to Food Allergen and Allergy Risk Management) project. This will provide a platform for data integration and harmonization. Allowing existing and future datasets to be managed long term.
For the AlleRiC (allergic reactions in the community) study for iFAAM: development of a web application for allergic reaction responses, working in conjunction with clinicians and researchers at University of South Manchester Hospitals, and University College Cork. The ASP .NET MVC web application provides a reaction reporting platform, linking to participant questionnaire responses, photos of foods, and LanguaL food codings.
Data annotation tools: development of software and user interface to allow data managers to annotate their data, attaching metadata, and referring to terms from a controlled vocabulary for importing into the STELAR (Study Team for Early Life Asthma Research) e-Lab platform.
